HOW
FOREVER SLENDER™ WAS
CREATED
When I started formulating Forever Slender™, I was on
a medically-supervised fast. It was
my seventh time fasting, and I was determined not to regain the weight as I had
all the previous times. I calculated
that over a seven-year period I had gone three non-consecutive years without
putting one bite of food in my mouth except for the protein beverages.
In hindsight I realized that UCLA in
1983 just didn’t know how to help people keep their weight off. (I still
don’t think fasting programs in 2006 have a good record for keeping the weight
off either.) The directors’
insisted that we as humans didn’t need any fat in our diets, and if we kept
our calories below 600 and removed all fat, we would drop down to our ideal
weight, which we did. Then the nutritionists told us to eat protein and
vegetables for six weeks, then they added grains (the bottom of the food
pyramid), and I went out of control and couldn’t stop the weight gain.
I distinctly remember going up to 170 lbs. after achieving my weight goal of
123 lbs. I cried and asked my husband,
“How do I stop the gain?” I went
all the way back up to 232 lbs., which is where I started.
I did this six more times over seven years never going below 150 lbs.
And this is where I began to ask myself the question, “What have I done
in the past that really worked to lose weight without fasting.”
I knew I was never going to subject myself to a fast again.
I remembered that I took off 50
pounds after both pregnancies. I
gained up to 200 by delivery and went back down to 149 pounds with the old
Weight Watchers weight loss plan. That
was the one with no pasta, white rice or sugar unless it was five down on a list
of ingredients. At the time there
seemed to be a mentality that you could go on a “diet,” take the weight off,
then you could indulge in the foods you missed like spaghetti, pizza and
high-sugar desserts. In other words,
you could go back to eating the way that put weight on in the first place.
But no one really put that idea together.
In 1995 I became a Hypnotherapist.
I recognized that hypnosis was extremely effective with weight loss and
decided to put together some weight loss tapes based on principles from
Overeaters Anonymous. The first tape
was The Abstinence Habit, which included suggestions to stop overeating between
meals, random eating and eating after dinner or night-time eating.
It was very successful.
In my contemplation of what would
work, I realized that protein definitely helped take off weight, and so did the
old Weight Watchers plan. Hypnosis
absolutely helps people change their eating habits to lose weight.
The new addition was the more scientific knowledge around how we put fat
on in the first place. The book, Protein
Power by Michael R. Eades, M.D. and Mary Dan Eades, M.D., gave me the final
key to unlock my program. I realized
that the lowering of blood sugar and the subsequent increase of insulin was the
most important factor in weight gain.
So I put The
Forever Slender Program™ together with the Abstinence Habit, a few other scripts,
and the meal plans plus recipes for eight weeks.
And I had great success. Right
away I had five clients plus my husband all take off around 30 pounds each.
I felt I was on to something….but, it didn’t work on me.
I went off the fast and on to Forever Slender, and my weight just stayed
absolutely the same. It didn’t
move for seven months. I stayed
still at 174 pounds. (I WASN’T
GAINING any weight back. This was Magical, but
I was so foolish because I didn’t let my body heal from the fast
and wanted to take off more.)
I became impatient and so I went on
the Atkins Diet, and for three months. I ate exactly what was recommended…and
didn’t lose one ounce. I just
stayed the same. At that point I
gave up, but I didn’t know how to incorporate carbohydrates into my diet
anymore. I was terribly confused
about what and how to eat, and my weight rebounded with such a large weight gain
that the next thing I knew, I weighed 215 pounds.
I still couldn’t stop the gain and went up to 243.
Basically I stayed around 237 lbs. for five years. I would lose five
pounds and regain it, but mostly stayed stable.
This was a great accomplishment for me, but I was doing it 100 pounds
more than I wanted to weigh. So here
I am having clients come to me, putting them on Forever Slender, having them
take off around 30 pounds, and I am staying the same.
Those of you who have been through fasts and tried to diet on your own
know exactly how I felt. I had been in starvation mode for so long that my
body thought I was starving even at 237 lbs. It wouldn't let me take any
fat off. This is called leptin resistance. You can read more about
it in "How We Get Fat."
In the meantime I purchased a few
additional scripts from a wonderful Hypnotherapist, Nancy Reno.
I liked what I read and decided to incorporate my scripts, hers and a new
reinforcement script into a series of CD’s that would enhance my eating plan,
and that was the birth of the The
Forever Slender Program™.
My husband and I started listening to the CD’s and doing the Program,
and for the first time I was taking off excess weight by myself (no NutraSystem™,
Jenny Craig™, Weight Watchers™, etc.). I
started working with four other clients at the same time, and all were
successful.
What is truly amazing for me is that
for the first time in my life I no longer crave sugar or white flour foods.
I see them and know I can have them, but I’m just not interested.
I’m also putting my fork down frequently at each meal which is
something I have never done. It’s
been seven months, and I know we are progressing.
My cholesterol has come down 40 points.
After all the prior fasting I’ve done, weight loss is very slow for
me…..but it is happening. My
husband is again down 25 pounds, and I am as well.
And not only is the weight coming off, it is staying off.
I just want you all to know that I am doing this Program myself. I
believe in it and see the results on myself.
I couldn’t sell it in good conscience to you if I didn’t see results
on me. My goal is to soon stand
before the world at my ideal weight.
I
believe in
The Forever Slender Program™, and I believe it will work for you, too.
