Why does hypnosis work so well with weight-loss programs?
You can lose weight with hypnosis. Hypnosis and weight loss go together, and the process has been known to be
effective for many years. The reason lies in the unique ability of a hypnotized
person’s desire and need to follow a beneficial weight-loss suggestion. The
subconscious mind accepts the hypnosis weight-loss suggestion unconditionally.
Typically these suggestions are to eat nutritious food, stop binging, stop
overeating, stop eating junk foods, stop eating sugar foods, and stop late-night
eating or eating after dinner or non-stop eating. The CD’s in the Forever
Slender Program put a great deal of emphasis on enhancing our self esteem and
self-confidence at the same time there are suggestions to eat slow, chew well,
and put your fork down.
The subconscious mind is like an organic computer. It is easily programmed.
Just think about how many negative suggestions we accept so easily. Since the
subconscious mind absolutely cannot judge, reason or evaluate, it’s function
is to work automatically and accept what it’s told. In fact, the subconscious
mind cannot tell the difference between what is real and what is imagined. That’s
why so many self-development advisors and spiritual advisors advise us to
pretend as though we have what we desire…or "act as if" we are what
we desire. What we focus or dwell on is what we manifest in our lives. It is our
responsibility for our own good to contemplate what we truly want instead of
what we don’t have. Hold it clearly in our minds every day and anticipate
having it. What is expected tends to be realized.
To achieve true hypnosis, we must bypass the critical factor in the brain.
This is the ten percent of our brain that judges, evaluates and makes decisions.
This critical factor is developed around the age of 8 years old. That’s why
when we are young we believe in Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy, and the
Boogieman. This is also why many of us have low self-esteem, especially if our
parents or those we love have made us feel we are not good enough or lovable
enough. Think about the suggestions we have received in childhood that made us
feel bad. Emotion must be present for a suggestion to be made into a belief
system. Parents may say things in anger like, "you’ll never amount to
anything," "you’re a loser," "stupid," "don’t
get your hopes up," "you don’t have what it takes," "you
never finish what you start," "none of us have gone to college, what
makes you think you are so smart," "you’re a dreamer,"
"you’re lazy, good for nothing," "you can’t spell,"
"you’re really bad at math."
And in the case of people with weight-loss issues, we often have low self
esteem. Childhood obesity is a huge issue right now. Many times we may feel
unlovable because our parents make us feel we are not good enough because we
weigh too much. A parent may say "why can’t you lose weight?"
"Why are you so fat?" "I’m talking to you because I love you
and want you healthy, but you have to lose weight." Every time something is
said about our weight by a loved one, we diminish ourselves a little bit more.
We feel sadder and less than we should be. And our friends or peers at school
really put the topper on these feelings. Children often say cruel and hurtful
things. Bulimia and anorexia are results of this type of early programming.
As a consulting hypnotist, I emphatically recommend that we NEVER say
anything to our children about weight. Learn how to feed your children. (See my
article on Parents, It’s Your Fault You Child is Fat.) Teach your children how
to eat by example. And if you don’t know how to eat, check out the Forever
Slender Program. Children’s weight loss issues can be helped with Forever
Slender, too.
